SEEKING GOD.

What does it mean to seek God?

This simple means to go in search of God.

Why should we seek God?

God is the source of our existence.He sought us first by giving us life;by creating us in His image and likeness and breathing in us His breath of life.  (Gen 1:26-Gen 2:7)

There are many instances of Him seeking the Israelites in the bible through the prophets,despite their stubbornness.

 An example is seen in Amos5;4..'This is what the Lord  says to the house of Israel: Seek me and live'

The ultimate way God sought us is through Jesus and His redemptive work on the cross.

Jesus  calls us to seek him when He said, 'Come unto me all ye who are burdened and i will give you rest'.(Matt11:28)

 Oh !  Such a gracious invitation from our Saviour. He knows how weighed down His children can be from the cares and worries of this life and He wants us to receive His rest.Coming to Him means coming into true knowlege of Him,true rest,trust peace.This means to pray to Him,to rely on and trust in Him.

When you trust someone,You often go to that person for advice and help.We should trust God  daily and His great plans for our lives.Remember the popular scripture,For I know the plans i have for you,plans to prosper you and not to harm you,plans to give you a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11)

A verse prior to His  great invitation to us to come to Him,He reveals a heavenly secret to us..

Matt11; 27..'All things have been committed to me by my Father.No one knows the Son except the Father,and no one knows the Father except the Son  and those whom the Son chooses to reveal to Him.'

This means that if not for the coming of Jesus Christ,no one would have known God except God himself.

John17:3 'This is eternal life,that they may know you,the only true God,and Jesus Christ,whom you have sent'.

We would have been cut off from this life of knowing God and would have lost eternal life.What a tragedy that would have been ! 

This is the good news...that through Jesus Christ we get to know God !  He is the way to this heavenly secret,the way to the Father.Indeed Jesus is the way,the truth and the life.(John14:6)

Hence,Jesus call to us in  verse 28. Come one,Come all !  Come to me ! 

More reasons why you should seek God ? 

He cares for you. 1Peter5:7 'Cast all your cares upon the Lord for He cares for you'.

It is so lovely to know that i am loved and cared for by the Almighty God.

We should seek God because,'He came that we may have life and have it abundantly'.John 10:10

ACTION PLAN.

Thank God for redeeming you through His son's passion and death.Tell God how much you love Him,and how you need Him daily.
