How to talk like God

God is so good and has great plans for each and every one of us (Jeremiah 29:11).Some of these plans are not manifested physically because we have not learnt to unlock them from the supernatural realm to the physical with the words of our mouth. Proverbs 18:21 tell us that death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat its fruit. Our words have supernatural power .Proverbs 13:2 says, from the fruit of their lips, people enjoy good things.

Everything created by God came to existence by His spoken word. Indeed, God called into existence things that did not exist, Romans 4:17.As children created in His image and likeness, we should imitate our father by reaching with our faith into the spiritual realm where God is and talk of the things that exist there as though they were a reality in our life. For example, the bible encourages us to say we are strong even if we are weak (Joel 3:10).

Confession is not denying physical facts. It is declaring what God has said about an outcome and standing in faith until we receive it. The benefits God has given us in his word are ours already and when we express the toughness of our situation instead of the truth in God’s word, we are giving the devil a foothold to snatch these promises away from us.

How do we know what exactly to say? Imagine this illustration, in a good marriage, couples get to know each other well enough to think, sound and sometimes look alike. They do things for each other the exact way the spouse would do for him/herself. This is achieved through years of staying together. In my case, unlike everyone I know, I dislike fried ripe plantains. I can only tolerate it when the plantain is cut thinly and fried a certain way such that it is not soggy and it has some crisp ends. In all my years on earth thus far, my husband is the only person that has perfected this “lost art”.  Can I say iron sharpens iron? ☺☺

My point is when we draw nearer to God by spending quality time with Him and studying His word, we become more attuned and familiar with His voice. The word of God becomes so deeply rooted in our hearts that our thoughts align with what God says. We start to realize for example that we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21), or that no matter what, all things will work together for our good (Romans 8:28), or that God loves us dearly (John 3:16, John 15:13).

Words reveal what we truly believe. Jesus said, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
Our words should be backed up by faith, if not they are idle. We are called to walk by faith not by sight (2Corinthians 5:7).When we speak the word in faith; they have the same power to change our circumstances, as when God spoke creation into being.

However, we can’t just say anything that comes to mind with faith and expect God to grant it because we are making confessions. Our declaring must be according to His will, and His will is found in the bible. 1 John 5:14-15, this is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us, whatever we as , we know that we have what we asked of Him.
